Our Story
Over a decade ago, against general advice, my excited young Australian family set off on a holiday to remote Kalimantan. The region had few tourists, and we selected several destinations from old National Geographic magazines. We were determined to see pristine rainforest, drift down remote rivers, spot Orangutan and Proboscis monkey, all while enabling locals to earn incomes through conserving their forests.
Our family had the most amazing adventures, the wildlife and rainforests were beautiful, the frontier vibe was exciting, and we bonded over new experiences. We were hooked and over the years we became like Borneo natives, returning again and again.
Traveling in developing regions has its challenges especially if you seek adventure, if time is limited or kids are travelling. IndoOffGrid exists to make awesome wildlife adventures doable, to allow families and friends to take a break, to connect people and community, to create great memories and all while doing some good.

Our approach
We’re a small-scale Australian company, focused on providing a limited number of fantastic nature-based journeys for your family & friends. We work with carefully selected Indonesian partners to ensure our tours are the best on offer. We won’t add other tourists to your group, the tour is just for you & the family & friends you bring. This approach gives us flexibility to adjust things to your preferences as the tour unfolds.
Our tours are right for people who seek new experiences & have an adventurous spirit. Kalimantan is a developing region with different standards to the developed world. Electricity fails, roads close, wetlands flood, wildlife hides & norms differ. In short, at times, don’t be shocked if something goes a little “off-piste”. For some people, the people that love IndoOffGrid holidays, those quirky little bumps make a holiday memorable & entertaining. At the same time your highly experienced, English-speaking guide(s) are there to smooth problems, solve challenges & ensure you are well looked after.
